Building Trust in the Smallest Moments

As “Find Your Tribe” continues in Riga, each day reveals new ways that connection can grow, sometimes through deep conversations, sometimes through shared challenges, and sometimes in the most unexpected everyday moments. This day became a reminder that trust and belonging are not built through grand gestures alone, but through small experiences shared together.

We began the morning with breakfast, followed by our now familiar Rise & Recharge session and daily Community Building Circle. These morning rituals are slowly becoming anchors within the project, creating space for participants to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and enter the day feeling grounded and supported by the group around them.

The first major activity of the day was the Blindfold Challenge & Stranded Island exercise, an experience focused entirely on trust, communication, and cooperation. Participants worked in pairs, where one person was blindfolded and the other guided them only through verbal instructions. Without visual control, every step depended on listening carefully and trusting another person’s guidance.

At first, hesitation filled the room. Participants moved cautiously, uncertain whether they could fully rely on someone else. Yet as the activity progressed, something began to change. Voices became calmer, instructions clearer, and trust stronger. Participants discovered that trust is rarely built instantly; it grows slowly through consistency, patience, and small moments of reliability.

The activity also highlighted how communication shapes relationships. The tone of a voice, the clarity of instructions, and the willingness to support someone through uncertainty all became essential parts of the experience.

Later in the day, participants stepped into a completely different kind of community experience through the Connection Lab and a participant-led thrifting workshop in Riga’s local second-hand markets. On the surface, the activity explored sustainable fashion, conscious consumption, and the environmental value of reusing clothing. But beneath this practical layer, something much more social unfolded.

Browsing through racks together became an act of storytelling and connection. Participants debated whether certain pieces were hidden treasures or questionable fashion choices, shared memories attached to similar clothes from home, and encouraged each other to experiment with new styles. What could have been an ordinary shopping trip transformed into a collective ritual of curiosity, creativity, and belonging.

The activity demonstrated that community can emerge in simple shared experiences. Sometimes connection is built not during formal workshops, but while laughing together over a vintage jacket or helping someone choose an outfit that makes them feel confident.

As the evening arrived, we gathered once again for our Community Building Circle, reflecting on the emotions, lessons, and moments that shaped the day. Participants spoke about trust, vulnerability, teamwork, and the growing comfort they feel within the group.

The day concluded with a vibrant Latvian Cultural Night 🇱🇻, where participants discovered local traditions, flavors, stories, and cultural elements shared by the Latvian team. The evening became another beautiful reminder that cultural exchange is not only about learning facts about another country, it is about experiencing hospitality, identity, and human connection firsthand.

What did participants take away from this day?

• Trust is built through small, consistent actions rather than big promises

• Communities can grow anywhere when people genuinely care for one another

• Shared experiences, even something as simple as thrifting, can create powerful moments of belonging

• Different people bring different perspectives, and that diversity strengthens the group

Day by day, the atmosphere within the project is changing. Participants are becoming more open, more confident, and more connected, not only as individuals, but as a community growing together through every shared experience.
