Turning Strangers into a Community

Our first full day together was all about connection, trust, and creating a space where everyone feels valued, heard, and safe.

We began the morning with a warm welcome and project orientation, giving participants the chance to discover the goals of “Find Your Tribe”, explore the venue, and start getting to know the people who will share this journey together. One of the first reflective moments of the day was writing anonymous expectation sheets, where everyone shared their hopes, wishes, and personal goals for the week ahead. These reflections will return to us on the final day, reminding us how far we have grown.

Together, we also created our Safe Space Agreement, not a list of imposed rules, but a collective promise built by the participants themselves. Respect, openness, confidentiality, active listening, and honesty became the values guiding our shared experience throughout the project.

After lunch, the energy shifted as we dived into interactive icebreakers and the “Concentric Circles” activity. Through a series of quick one-on-one conversations, participants rotated every minute, exchanging stories, thoughts, and smiles. In less than an hour, unfamiliar faces slowly started becoming familiar connections.

Later in the afternoon, we explored the world of Erasmus+ and Youthpass, discovering how non-formal learning helps young people develop valuable competencies and recognize their personal growth throughout international experiences like this one.

We closed the day with a meaningful community-building circle, a calm and reflective space where participants shared emotions, first impressions, and moments that stood out to them. It reminded us that building a community does not happen instantly; it begins with listening, openness, and small moments of courage.

What did we learn today?

• How trust can be built in a completely new group

• Why shared agreements create stronger communities

• How simple conversations can break barriers and build connection

And maybe the most important outcome of all: the silence of shyness slowly began to disappear. More voices were heard. More smiles appeared.

A community is no longer just an idea, it is already starting to take shape.
